Hong Kong Police Dismantle $15M Crypto Money Laundering Network
Hong Kong authorities have arrested twelve individuals linked to a cross-border money laundering scheme that processed HK$118 million ($15 million) through cryptocurrency and fraudulent bank accounts. The operation, which utilized over 500 third-party accounts, funneled illicit funds through local crypto exchange shops to obscure their origins.
The syndicate allegedly operated from a rented apartment in Mong Kok, where they coordinated the laundering activities. Police confirmed that more than HK$9.4 million ($1.2 million) of the funds were traced to fraudulent sources. The case highlights the growing intersection of traditional financial crime and digital asset networks.
